Thank you for many years of pleasurable and stimulating reading. Two questions, if I may. Why did you start the Ruffian? And why do you think it's been successful?
I loved John and Paul. Besides the story itself, I was fascinated by how you write such a book. There is a lot of speculation about their thoughts and feelings — how much were you worried that Paul would read it and say it was all wrong, or just hate it? I would be paralysed by such a fear. (Do you know: has Paul read it?)
Ian, I’ve written 4 moderately successful books in my world, and your ability to turn out such high quality thinking and writing so frequently astounds me. Could you share more about your writing process or processes?
Thanks for all your great posts this year. I first really got to know your work through the Polarised podcast you did with Matthew Taylor and the RSA. I don’t know if you like looking back, but I’d be interested to hear a discussion between you and Matthew about how your thinking has changed since that series ended. And the Zadie Smith/E.M. Forster podcast too!
John & Paul was such a joy, thank you. Perhaps too late to ask, but do you think they were ever close to working together again - and would it have been a good idea anyway?

Thanks so much for your response. Wishing you a happy new year.
Could another John and Paul emerge today? Where could they come from? What might be their background and circumstances?

Tyler Cowen voice: what are you going to write next?
