Great interview - a hugely welcome confirmation of what we older lags have always suspected - AI is another transformation (and even perhaps a revolution) in the way we share and use information but it is no more the end of civilisation as we know it than the printing press was.

(Incidentally, the discussion of the historic reaction to such inventions reminded me of the scene in the film version of Brian Moore’s Black Robe when a Native American is astonished and appalled by the ability of the two Jesuits to communicate by writing words on paper.)

This is good and informative, but I do wish that we could read the transcript without listening to the recording. Unlike most of my fellow countrymen (countrypersons, compatriots) I can and do read; and I can do it faster than I can listen. I also have the brains and experience to note when stuff is complicated or just plain deep, and slow down. And in my old age I resent stuff that takes up my time when I choose otherwise.

Maybe ask Paul Krugman how he does this trick?

But seriously, I enjoy your work and read it regularly, but the interviews tempt me so skip.

If you click ‘transcript’ at the top you can read it although I do recommend listening.

[Sigh] Works, but when I try *printing* it for easy reading, the print function (MacOS, two different browsers) prints with wide blank or irrelevant spaces on the right, and short lines of text on the left: 29 pages, which is a lot of paper. But well worth reading fully.
