The brain refreshes. And the best thing about this delightful post: not one word about Trump. Hooray!

Used this as a Primer to Florence where I'm visiting currently and then realised the Coda. Florence is very busy (May 2026) but I did get some time with some of the paintings including the one you singled out. Now ft a day of aimless strolling, Gelato and meats.

Recommend the Rembrandt in Kenwood House. Noone else there as you take in the master!

I remember the ice-cream! And the pasta. Not to mention hours spent going round the Uffizzi (1980-1982 when I lived there). I still love Donatello's David and Brunelleschi's dome. Talking of Brunelleschi's perspective, Giotto (1267-1337) starts along that way by turning hands so they emerge from the flat space of Simone Martini and co towards realism.

I studied abroad in Florence during college. My uncle is a professional painter and he encouraged me to read Irving Stone's The Agony and the Ecstasy before my trip. Understanding the history of the town and the timeline of these brilliant and influential minds was fascinating to me then and continues to inspire. Thank you for the recommendation - my copy of The Florentines just arrived!
